A Message From a GT Student

February 16th, 2010

A Message from a Georgia Tech Student

The following letter appeared in the January/February 2010 Georgia Tech Alumni Magazine:

I am a senior at Georgia Tech majoring in math, with minors in economics and Spanish. I got on the Washington, D.C. Georgia Tech Club email list last summer when I was interning at the Department of Education’s National Center for Educational Research.

I was thrilled to see the club’s push for supporting Roll Call. I would like all alumni to realize how directly these donations impact Tech students. Roll Call has made a Tech education possible for me, my brother (a second-year mechanical engineering student), and many of my friends and classmates. Roll Call helped support me on my summer internship in D.C., my year-long internship at the Georgia Senate Budget Office, and my study abroad semester in Mexico City and Madrid. I will graduate in May.

On behalf of the many students who benefit from Roll Call donations, I’d like to thank everyone who has contributed and to encourage everyone to give whatever they can so that other students will have the fantastic Georgia Tech experience I have had.

Mentor a Tech Student

September 22nd, 2009

(This just in from the GT Alumni Association)

Good afternoon,

From first-hand experience Georgia Tech alumni understand the rigors of being a student and all that it encompasses. Now you have the opportunity to give back and assist future alumni during their tenure at Georgia Tech!

Mentor Jackets, the alumni/student mentoring program sponsored by the Georgia Tech Alumni Association, seeks to create one-on-one personal and professional relationships between current students (2nd year +) and alumni mentors who act as role models and provide guidance to Tech undergraduates. Through a mentoring relationship, students have the opportunity to learn how to succeed at Georgia Tech and beyond from alumni who have been there and work in a variety of fields and professions.

Alumni have the opportunity to inspire, encourage, support and contribute to a Tech students’ professional and personal development.

Beyond phone calls, emails and individual meetings, Mentor Jackets will offer 4-6 programs and events throughout the 2009-10 academic year specifically for student participants and their alumni mentors. If you live out of town, e-mentoring is available.  Mentor Jackets is especially looking for alumni in all professions so please sign up to be an Alumni mentor by SEPTEMBER 25 to be a part of the 2009 program. Visit the Alumni Mentor sign-up form to volunteer.

If you have any questions, please contact Mentor Jackets at mentoring@gtalumni.org or Jane Stoner,jane.stoner@alumni.gatech.edu or 404-385-2216.

I look forward to seeing you. This will be a very rewarding experience.  As always, thank you for your support of the Mentor Jackets program and Georgia Tech.
