Mentor a Tech Student

September 22nd, 2009

(This just in from the GT Alumni Association)

Good afternoon,

From first-hand experience Georgia Tech alumni understand the rigors of being a student and all that it encompasses. Now you have the opportunity to give back and assist future alumni during their tenure at Georgia Tech!

Mentor Jackets, the alumni/student mentoring program sponsored by the Georgia Tech Alumni Association, seeks to create one-on-one personal and professional relationships between current students (2nd year +) and alumni mentors who act as role models and provide guidance to Tech undergraduates. Through a mentoring relationship, students have the opportunity to learn how to succeed at Georgia Tech and beyond from alumni who have been there and work in a variety of fields and professions.

Alumni have the opportunity to inspire, encourage, support and contribute to a Tech students’ professional and personal development.

Beyond phone calls, emails and individual meetings, Mentor Jackets will offer 4-6 programs and events throughout the 2009-10 academic year specifically for student participants and their alumni mentors. If you live out of town, e-mentoring is available.  Mentor Jackets is especially looking for alumni in all professions so please sign up to be an Alumni mentor by SEPTEMBER 25 to be a part of the 2009 program. Visit the Alumni Mentor sign-up form to volunteer.

If you have any questions, please contact Mentor Jackets at mentoring@gtalumni.org or Jane Stoner,jane.stoner@alumni.gatech.edu or 404-385-2216.

I look forward to seeing you. This will be a very rewarding experience.  As always, thank you for your support of the Mentor Jackets program and Georgia Tech.

Go Jackets!!

11th President at GT Officially Installed

September 15th, 2009

The Georgia Institute of Technology officially installs its eleventh president, G.P. “Bud” Peterson, at an investiture ceremony today. The Institute is using the historic occasion to kick off its efforts to create a strategic vision for the next 25 years.

G.P.

Under President Peterson’s guidance, Georgia Tech begins its strategic planning process focused on what the Institute will look like in 25 years.

“Georgia Tech has a tradition of excellence that I’m proud to be a part of now,” said Peterson. “Today’s ceremony gives us a chance to reflect on that tradition and begin planning for our future.”

Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue and University System of Georgia Chancellor Erroll Davis highlight the list of speakers officially welcoming Peterson as the Georgia Tech president.

And The Winner Is…

September 9th, 2009

GT_1stHangout5A big thank you goes out to all that came out to the inaugural monthly club hangout extravaganza and grand prize game. We had a great time and got to see some new faces. The venue worked out well and should be perfect for all the Fall events. The incriminating pictures have been posted to the Flickr gallery.

So, the winner of the grand prize game was John Christ for bringing three people to the event. He has the high honor of enjoying the GT tie until the next event (September 17th Game Watching) and during the next event. At that time, John will be able to crown the next champion and continue a proud tradition.

For those not fortunate enough to attend and for those that have “misplaced” their handouts, here are the documents that Miller Templeton handed out at the Freshman Send-Off.  Wise words for anyone that figures out that “hope” is not a strategy.
